| |  | | Starting his journalistic career more than 30 years ago as Four Wheeler magazine's Tech Editor, Jim had already been an off-roader for more than a decade. He'd already converted his '46 CJ2a to a Chevy V8, installed a Ford 351C, Super T-10 4-spd transmission, Rancho overdrive, and a Dana 44 with 4.56:1 front differential into his 1967 Bronco (his first sale!). And he'd dropped the Bronco's 289 V8 into a friend's Nissan Patrol (we're told it slipped in easy as an egg in a buttered pan). At the time, Jim was considered the authority on all things Jeep. He presently owns a 2004 Chevy Avalanche, a 1982 CJ-7 (with a Chevy 400 V8 & TH350 tranny), and a 2007 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Unlimited.
